La Fantaisie through the lens of Kalpesh Lathigra, from Paris to Frieze London

An artist's invitation
For its first-ever photography exhibition, To Seek, To Find, Mr & Mrs Smith brought together ten photographers it had commissioned at hotels across its collection. Curated by Brandei Estes of the National Portrait Gallery, the show took place at No.9 Cork Street, Frieze's permanent space in Mayfair: a private view on 15 October, then open to the public on 16 and 17 October as part of the official Frieze Week programme.
In Paris, La Fantaisie welcomed Kalpesh Lathigra, a British artist whose work sits between documentary and art practice.
A documentary eye
Kalpesh Lathigra explored the hotel as a documentarian would: no direction, no added props, simply following the light and the spaces. The result is an intimate, quiet reading of the place, attentive to the details you only notice when you take your time.
Two photographs were selected for the exhibition: a view from a bedroom window, and a bed caught in the stillness of a Parisian morning.
La Fantaisie as a source of inspiration
This collaboration extends what defines La Fantaisie: a hotel designed for lingering, for contemplation and creativity. Seeing it through an artist's eyes is a way of discovering it anew.
Our thanks to Mr & Mrs Smith and Kalpesh Lathigra for the invitation.
